Running a good restaurant is bloody hard work. I've talked about my friend who was a regional manager for Burger King. Not that BK is high end anything, but most of his food skills he learned while overseeing an O Club back in his past. I have another good friend that was literally raised in the restaurant biz. Started bussing tables, became a prep cook, then the fry guy, head of kitchen, moved to the front of the house and later managed restaurants for awhile. One is too old now, but you couldn't forcibly throw either guy back into the job of running a restaurant.

@George-K said in Armed robbery: @Horace said in Armed robbery: It would be more inspirational if he was trans. Thank you for bringing the important things to mind. I remain humbled. But, it's pretty inspirational as shown, no? 5/10. White cis male privilege is not entirely stored in one’s arms.

Texas might be an easier build than California. After a decade and a half (or more) of promises and billions of dollars spent, the California HSR project continues to be a boondoggle. Getting right-of-way might be easier than in California. Remember when comparing HSR proposals in the United States, a sense of scale is important. Good, I hope this turns out as effective and as convenient and as cost effective as hoped.

@George-K I think it is good. He has had to "walk backward" some of his earlier comments that were more strong about independence, etc. (Just like all politicians around the world. LOL). There will not be a whole lot of change from President Tsai. For the high majority of people, I believe they would just like the status quo to continue. Taiwan acts as a independent country. China leaves us along, etc. I think I mentioned previously, but one thing that Taiwan has done recently is removed "Republic of China" from the cover of the passports (Note: this happened before President Lai was elected.) Another Jimmy (attending surgeon) story... There are few forms of life that is lower than the intern on the vascular surgery service. One time, a intern said to Dr. Jimmy, "You know, I don't think I'm learning enough on this service." (insert THICK Chinese accent) "You miserable son of bitch! You not here learn! You hear wok (work)."

@taiwan_girl said in This 4th July....: ONe think good about the parliament system is that elections are announced and then they have them weeks later. Boom!! Oh, c'mon! We're into an election process about 5 milliseconds after the president is sworn in! Gives us something to talk about.

Did the same thing with his paintings it appears. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/article/2024/may/22/damien-hirst-artworks-painted-years-later-currency-artist At least 1,000 paintings that the artist Damien Hirst said were “made in 2016” were created several years later, the Guardian can reveal. ...five sources familiar with the creation of the works, including some of the painters who put the dots to paper, told the Guardian many of them were mass-produced in 2018 and 2019. Their accounts suggest at least 1,000 – and possibly several thousand – paintings in The Currency series were made during the two-year period. They were produced by dozens of painters hired at Hirst’s company Science Ltd at two studios, in Gloucestershire and London, in what one source described as a “Henry Ford production line”.

@Jolly said in Meanwhile, in New York...: @LuFins-Dad said in Meanwhile, in New York...: @Jolly said in Meanwhile, in New York...: @LuFins-Dad said in Meanwhile, in New York...: The act has been successfully invoked in a range of COVID-19-related cases. Workers who injected a child with a COVID-19 vaccine without parental consent, for instance, recently won the dismissal of a lawsuit by citing the law. This is extremely troubling to me. Still think that “public health” supersedes our basic rights, Jolly? Yes, I do. But there is a difference between transmission and treatment. Stop right there. The forced vaccination without parental consent is a transmission issue. Do you believe that the threat of transmission supersedes the personal and parental rights? In some cases, yes. COVID is not a good example because of the novel nature of the vaccine. Smallpox is. Polio is. COVID is the only example as that is specifically what we are discussing. But, Polio Vaccines are not mandatory. Nor are Small Pox. There are requirements for public schools and other such mandates, which is fine, but not enforced vaccination.
